Welcome to Linux Anyway.

This list is primarily for discussion &/or help on anything, even remotely, related to Linux, though general questions about computers certainly won't be neglected -- nor anything off topic. The reason for yet another Linux help list is because, being subscribed to many, I've seen entirely too many posts concerned with ~how~ someone posed their questions, or giving non-answers. Of course, Linux requires a great deal of study, but instead of just pointing people elsewhere, this list, I hope, will be more open to educating & informing.

Along with this, I don't care for over-moderation. Why shouldn't one person, excited about something which really isn't related to Linux, be allowed to share this news with a group of people they've come to know? Anyone who doesn't care for what appear to be pointless posts must always remember -- you have a Delete key.

I now realize I must add an addendum to this "over-moderation" statement. To clarify, The reason I'd left Linux_Newbies & only occasionally pay any attention to Linux -- both Yahoo Groups -- is because there appear to be too many moderators. In the case of Linux_Newbies, there is no official moderator, so a rather large number of posters there have taken it upon themselves to dictate what is & how things are to be posted.

While it is unlikely I will ever hassle anyone for posting a query that is not terribly intelligible or is in an awkward format (such as top posting), there may be a time I'll ask someone to try things another way...though I'm more likely to ask for more detail instead. More to the point -- I am the only one with the power to moderate. If someone acts as moderator, they'll hear from me & may be blocked or even banned from the list at my discretion.

I'm very tolerant, but I will not tolerate another acting as moderator.

While Linux Anyway is a fairly free-wheeling list, there will be some rules, & most of them will come up as we go. For now, feel free to post what you wish. But keep in mind that there will be no html mail or attachments on Linux Anyway. There are many reasons for this, but please, restrict yourself to text-based e-mail, & instead of sending an entire file (unless it's necessary), copy & paste the needed portions into the body of the e-mail itself. Also, keep in mind that cross-posting, sending your query to more than one list, is likely to piss people off on other lists. Let's not do that.

Naturally, don't spam, or you are liable to be banned from the list. If you want to post anything which promotes anything or anyone, send it to me, Meph, privately, explain why you want to post it to the list, & ask me nicely if I will allow it. That way, no one gets banned.

As for faqs, Scott, a friend from other lists & who is now a subscriber here, has allowed me to edit his to suit Linux Anyway. Feel free to check it out at: Linux-Anyway FAQ. I have a rather sloppy Linux Help page as well, mostly for my own use, found at: Meph's Linux Help. I've just created a Linux-Anyway Files section too.

I will be editing this, so maybe come back & check it out again later.

Thanks. I hope you enjoy Linux Anyway. If you have any questions, you can either contact me on the list: Linux-Anyway, or directly: Meph.
