Hit & Run
It's time for another installment....
New Orleans
Hmm. New Orleans. Well, if not for the fact that the current climate changes are making the
entire Gulf Coast yet another disaster waiting to happen, if not for the horrendous
humidity, if not for cost of living being so outrageous due to reconstruction, if not for
all the opportunists (Americans), if not for the rampant crime, if not for the simple fact
it's in the South -- it might be fantastic.
Honestly, the danger doesn't bother me -- neither natural nor
human. It's the three greatest of problems which stem from one: The South, opportunists, &
Americans. I'm pretty sure I'd either wind up swinging from a tree or in prison for
homicidal rage if I spent more time there than to party. So few people get it.
Alaska
It's nice & cold & dark in winter, & the summers seem to go on forever. And how can one turn
down the opportunity to live where not only the night sky is just filled with
stars, but you also get to watch the solar winds dance in a hallucinogenic spectrum just
over your head?
Plus, nowhere else on this planet can one move & completely
reinvent themselves.
NYC
That's one of the things I miss most about NYC -- the wandering. I'd especially enjoy it
between 2am & 6am most anywhere, & even till round noon in the East Village because there
would be so little open on the Lower East Side. I used to love leaving some bar, say in
Tri-Beca, wandering aimlessly till I inevitably found myself at this all night place on 1st
Av near Canal, or even Hiro's (each of which I'm sure are gone) which was also all-night,
eating some breakfast as the sun would slowly rise over the city, then wandering round the
Village till sometime in the afternoon, going home to crash till round 10pm & then heading
back out to the Village.
Vegetarianism
Being a meat lover, I always laugh at the statement "Great vegetarian cook". How difficult
is it, really, to prepare vegetables? Actually, I think vegetarians should shut up & eat
some meat.
Pharmaceuticals
You know, if I ever find a woman who ~isn't~ on anti-depressants (or has no tattoos or
piercings -- which every eight year old now has), I might actually consider marriage. What's
the deal with everyone turning to pharmaceuticals for every little difficulty in life? Can't
people just accept that life sucks & get over it? Sheesh!
Fibro-myalgia
Gee, I guess I should pay more attention to every other television commercial. I'd not heard
of this. But maybe I'm confused by all the effects of taking all the pills advertised that
I'd missed that one. Isn't there a miracle cure for that which causes more embarrassing
problems than the initial (possible) illness?
Aging
Oh, my god! Someone's getting old? I'm thinking Soilent Green. We can't allow age to effect
anyone -- particularly in America where only the old & out of touch are allowed to make our
laws. Um, what?
Right-Wingers
Oh, because they have an answer -- albeit misinformed & guilt ridden -- for everything, we
must forever bite our tongues in their presence. I know I don't have the
energy, or the facts, or the tolerance to back up each & every statement, to prove
everything which they will counter with something some other misinformed right-winger says
about the subject or the statements of non-right-wingers, & won't believe anything you tell
them anyway. They live in this world-fantasy created by politicians & marketing people where
a street sweeper can feel proud because his title is "Transportation Maintenance Engineer"
while he's still only getting paid a substandard wage, lives in a box because his ex had an
attorney who could talk a better game & is getting two thirds of his substandard wage in
alimony or child support in spite of the fact the kids are from her former
marriage.
Work
Heh. I no longer hold my breath for jobs which pay a living wage. Few employers get that the
life an employee can afford outside work reflects directly how much they enjoy their jobs &
how inclined they are to contributing to a rich man's ability to buy a new set of golf
clubs.
