Not Poland -- Haawaii...uh, anta Cruz -- no, Seattle, again.

Ch-ch-ch-changes. See my Santa Cruz Chronicles.
Ok. Forget the Santa Cruz page...wait for it...soon will be a Seattle page. I know, I had one of those before. And yes, I keep moving. What can I say? I'm a rambler.
My original plan was to teach English in Poland. My oldest friend & I were planning to move there in August of 2004, take a teaching course for certification -- that & the ability to speak English was all we needed -- at that time -- to get work. That was till Poland entered the European Uunion. Now, one has to possess a Bachelor's degree to get a work visa. Considering neither of us had stayed in college long enough to get one, I had to come up with a new plan.
As I don't have my own connection to the Net -- let alone a place o live -- yet, I don't have much time, on-line, to do more than check my mail & maybe some Web pages. I will be changing this page to reflect my current location, though. Considering I'm not in Hawaii any longer -- & have no desire to return -- it makes little sense to leave it as a Hawaii page. Wait for it.

It took me some time, but now that I'm here, I can't imagine myself anywhere else. (That was Hilo. Nice. But that wasn't meant to be.) It's not just the beauty of the place, it's not just the beauty of the people, or the massive spiders, countless mosquitos, live volcanos, isolation, etc. I think the bikinis help too. What would a pale-skinned, misanthrope with an aversion to the sun do in such a place as Hawaii? Suffer, of course. |

Here's Hilo: |
You'll notice Hilo, on Hilo Bay, is a fairly large bay, a little more than half way up the coast on the right of the image. I am actively looking for any gainful employment there now, & I hope to leave as soon as I possibly can. Here we get a little closer. Hilo is on what's called the "windward" side of the island of Hawaii. This side of the island gets anywhere from 175-440 inches of rain per year (unofficially, of course). That makes it, at least, one of the rainiest places on the planet. This suits me fine. I like rain. Hilo suits me because it is the county seat of the island, & because it's a college town. There's also a small Linux user group, the Big Island Lug. I may actually become more active in the Linux community. |

And the city: |
The city of Hilo's population, as of the 2000 census, had a total 40,759, & is the largest town on the island of Hawaii. A fascinating fact is that it is vulnerable to tsunamis. Also because of the two active (of five) volcanos: Kilauea & Mauna Loa, there are plenty of earth quakes -- & Kilauea still spews, continuously. Of course, these volcanos will make life ever more interesting -- & potentially dangerous. But I grew up in California. How much worse can a little molten rock be? I'll get more data on the rest of the island when I have some time. |
